Download artspots-update.exe

Installation on Windows

Download the file. Double-click it, wait a minute or two for it to grab the images. In the meantime, you can keep an eye on \Documents and Settings\your_username\.artspots-cache\ and watch the art trickle in.

How to use it

The easiest way to use this script is to run it every time you log in. You'll have to create a shortcut in your startup folder (go to %USERPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs\Startup in Explorer). Use the right mouse button to drag the file artspots-update.exe there. You will get a small context menu where you can choose to create a shortcut.

Right-click on the shortcut, and select Properties. In this dialog, you can add switches. For example, here I added -p 50 to keep only the newest 50 images;

Another switch is -j. This will download from Jaxpad instead, and put the images in \Documents and Settings\your_username\.jaxpad-cache.

To turn this collection of images into a screensaver, right-click on your desktop, and go to Properties > Screen Saver. From the list of screensavers, pick "My Pictures Slideshow", and click on the Settings button. You'll see a "Use pictures in this folder" field. Click on the Browse button and select your Artspots image directory. Click on OK and Preview to make sure it's working.
